Żejtun to Xrobb l-Għaġin: A Walking Route

Xrobb l-Għaġin is the cliff-top nature park on the Delimara peninsula, with the remains of a prehistoric temple, broad sea views, and almost none of the crowds that find St Peter’s Pool. It is walkable from Żejtun.

The route and the place

Like St Peter’s Pool, Xrobb l-Għaġin is reached most naturally by walking down to Marsaxlokk first and then out along the Delimara peninsula. Total distance from Żejtun: roughly 6 km one way. The site itself is a nature park managed for biodiversity and education, with the eroded remains of a small Neolithic temple — most of the original temple has been lost to the cliff over the millennia, but enough survives to reward a quiet visit. The cliff edge is dramatic; keep children close. The views east and south, on a clear day, run as far as Filfla and the Sicilian shipping lanes.

The walk is best in spring or autumn. Summer is too exposed for the long approach unless you start very early or take a bus to Marsaxlokk and walk only the final stretch. Why Xrobb is special

Xrobb l-Għaġin is one of the few places in Malta where prehistoric remains, working agricultural land, and protected nature reserve all coexist within a few hundred metres of each other. The site is managed for biodiversity rather than for visitor numbers, which means the path infrastructure is light and the experience is one of being trusted to behave. The cliff edge here is real and the drop is serious; do not approach the edge for a photograph. The visitor centre, when open, runs short interpretive sessions that are worth the time. The site rewards a slower visit than most people give it.
