How to Get to Żejtun From Valletta
Valletta to Żejtun is straightforward — a 30 to 40 minute bus ride or a short taxi. Here’s the practical short version.
This article is a stub. Bus numbers and current journey times to follow.
The options
Bus. Tallinja buses run between Valletta’s central terminus (just outside the city gate) and Żejtun several times an hour during the day. Single fares on a contactless Tallinja card or with a contactless bank card are cheap. Journey time runs 30–45 minutes depending on traffic and route. The bus drops you within a short walk of the parish square. Taxi or ride-share. Faster — typically 20–25 minutes outside rush hour — and door-to-door. Bolt is widely available in Malta and often cheaper than the regulated white taxi. Hire car. Doable but generally not worth it for a single day trip; parking in Żejtun’s historic core is largely residential-only and Valletta itself is closed to most non-resident vehicles inside the bastions.
Best move by part of the day: morning, the bus is fine and gives you a useful sense of the geography. Late evening, after the last festa-week march or a long Sunday lunch, ride-share saves the wait. Sunday and late-night
The catch with bus-only planning is the late evening. The Tallinja network thins out after about 10pm and is sparser on Sundays, so the bus that gets you down to Żejtun at lunchtime may not have a comfortable counterpart for the way back at 11pm. The realistic plan is to use the bus one way and take a Bolt or taxi the other, especially if you’ve had wine with dinner. The same applies in reverse: bus down from Valletta in the morning, and Bolt back if you’ve stayed late. The combined cost is still well below what an equivalent journey would cost in a major European capital.
